What the customer is asking for
A client reported the presence of microscopic white contaminations within a Polyamide (PA) molded part. The client sought to determine the nature and origin of this contamination. The objective of the investigation was to identify the chemical composition of the inclusion.
The solution proposed by Plastanalisi
Leveraging its decades of experience in the field of plastics, the laboratory proposed to identify the microscopic contamination using FT-IR analysis with ATR diamond instrumentation.
Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, employing the ATR technique, allows for the analysis of microscopic particles with dimensions of just a few millimeters. ATR analysis is a powerful tool for investigating samples on a microscopic scale, and it enables direct analysis without the need for sample pretreatment.

Analysis results
The client was provided with information regarding the chemical nature of the contamination, which was identified as polyethylene filled with Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). The report delivered to the client thus provided the answer regarding the chemical nature of the contaminant: polyethylene filled with Titanium Dioxide (TiO2).
